Ladder to Heaven & Immortal’s Cave

The Ladder to the Heaven is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the Phoenix Mountain. Because its steep slope has 53 steps, it is also called the “53 Steps”, which implies one would receive good results after fully understanding 53 truths. The Immortal’s Cave is located on top of the Ladder to the Heaven, being more than 16 meters above the ground and facing the east. The cave originally had doors because the stone wall still has a visible trace of doorframe. It is unknown when the cave was built, but the interior outlay indicates it could be built during the Liao and Jin Dynasties. Legend says that Han Zhongli practiced asceticism here before becoming an immortal. Hence, the cave derived its name.
