Magic Cypress

Issuing time:2021-11-03 20:06

Standing in front of the Longquan Temple, the cypress trees have solid and twisted light red trunks. Their leaves look like fish scales, with a few nuts in the midst. As the branches and leaves smell fragrant, the trees are deemed as having magic power. They begin to have sprouts when wild camellias are in blossom, and soon they have scale-like leaves. The two giant cypress trees send out mysterious smell. Legend goes that in 1880, Chong Wei, abbot of the temple, sold the two giant trees to the Shahe Shenchang Furniture Factory. Next day when people from the factory came to cut them, they found that the two trees had twisted their grains overnight and could no longer be cut into boards. The boss of the factory believed he had offended the god. He then raised funds and rebuilt the gate hall of the temple. Since then, the two trees are called the Magic Cypress.
