Lao Tzu Statue & Way and Virtue

Behind the Longquan Temple stands a stone statue of Lao Tsu, who slightly closes his eyes and places his hands on his knees. For thousands of years, the statue has been there to preach the way and virtue to purify human souls.

Way and virtue constitute the core of Taoist teachings preached by Lao Tsu. Being the source of the universe and controlling the universe, way and virtue are all-embracing and omnipresent, and represent the beginning and ending of everything. Way is both the noumenon of the universe and also the rules of the nature. Way and virtue are an integral whole and constitute the core of the teachings of Taoism. Taoism emphasizes self cultivation so that both way and virtue will flourish and the world will be full of peace and love.
