Ancient Ginkgo Trees

Ginkgo trees are also called Gongsun Trees in China. Being the oldest living plants on earth that have existed for 150 million years, ginkgo trees are called the living fossils. Ginkgo seeds are called “white nuts” in Chinese, which have high medicinal values and can be used to cure asthmatic cough, hypertension and other diseases. Latest research reveals that not only ginkgo seeds can be used for medicinal purpose, but ginkgo leaves also have high medicinal values. The Longquan Temple now has two ginkgo trees, one male and the other female. The female one is 5.1 meters in girth and about 1,000 years old. They are the living witnesses to the 1000-year-long history of the temple.
