Jisheng Pagoda

The Jisheng Pagoda, about seven meters high, is the place built to bury the truth body of Elder Jisheng, the first abbot of the Longquan Temple. It is a Tantric stone pagoda. The top is shaped like the sun, the moon and the stars, meaning the revolving of the wheels of dharma can send the soul directly to the heaven. The middle part has 13 wheels and the lower part is the base of the pagoda. Legend says that when Elder Jisheng died, vast auspicious clouds appeared in the sky and all kinds of birds sang on the earth. The monks of the temple chanted sutras for him for 49 days running and the sandlewood fragrance lasted around the pagoda for three years.
